Lounais-Suomen Jätehuolto (LSJH) has started textile waste processing trials at their plant in Paimio in South-Western Finland. Household post-consumer textiles are processed into recycled fibres on the pilot production line. Full scale production has been moved to the autumn, to ensure that all process stage functions are safe. Trial runs have now started, so that the production process can be developed together with business customers who will be using the produced textile fibres. Recycled fibre production at the Lounais-Suomen Jätehuollon (LSJH) textile processing plant in Paimio will start this autumn. At this stage, the final textile fibre products and processes can still be customized to the specific requirements of our partners. — This is a perfect time to start planning new solutions and product devolopment! The atmosphere at the factory in Paimio is energetic and exciting, although the original timetable to open the production line has had to change a little. —We are building a circular ecosystem for textiles together with our partners. Finnish waste management companies are together building a nationwide collection network for textiles. The waste management companies collect all the textile waste from domestic customers around Finland that the local counties are responsible for, so that the end-of-life textiles can be managed and reprocessed. LSJH’s long term goal is to open a production facility that can, in the near future, process all of Finland’s textile waste in Topinpuisto in Turku. The mechanical processing of post consumer textile waste into recycled fibres is a new and necessary circular economy loop, that enables the return of domestic post-consumer textile waste into circulation.
